AHPA MEETING MINUTES - February 10, 2008
Written by: Karen Tyson
Meeting was held at Neil Blaisdell Park. Flo (President) began the meeting introducing and welcoming new members. Information regarding a new committee “Parrot Watch” was provided to club members for discussion and approval.
The mission of Parrot Watch is to provide educational opportunities for the general public prior to purchasing a parrot and to promote the highest standards in avian care among private owners and those birds in the retail trade industry, pet stores. The club will form sub-committees to address standards of care for all parrots and lobby government legislature to implement basic standards for avian care to be enforced. The club unanimously agreed on this committee’s formation and volunteers were recruited to assist the cause.
Members were reminded to pay annual dues. Karen (events coordinator and VP) updated club members about coming events such as the Honolulu pet Expo in May and the possibility of Irene Pepperberg coming to speak to the club in the fall. Discussion surrounding fund raising ideas to promote at the Pet Expo included bird first aid kits and assorted toys.
After the meeting portion of the day the club members engaged in a silent auction of assorted donated goods to raise funds for the clubs general fund. Food and fun was had by all and the auction proved most successful!
