AHPA MEETING MINUTES
February 11th, 2007 By Makena
Elizabeth Neill welcomed everyone to the meeting. She thanked Ali for her work with the Club as President and Treasurer. Elizabeth thanked Pam and Ken Johnson for “stepping up” as the new Treasurers. A small flyer was handed out to the members instructing them to email their bird’s pictures to the website if they would like their birds pictures posted. Announcements about the March and April Meetings were made. Please refer to the Coming Events page for that information. The club may start a Bird Boarding List if there is any interest. EB Cravens will speak to our club in November and we need a place to meet that would accommodate a PowerPoint presentation. Contact Elizabeth with ideas or concerns about the meetings.
Ellie George from Grammas Aviary gave a presentation on “What to Do When You Bring Your Baby Bird Home”. The presentation included conceptual steps such as why a person would want a bird, what traits they are looking for in a bird and how to choose a bird that would fit in their current and future flock. Other concepts discussed were nutrition, travel, play time and vets. She also handed out a flyer on metal poisoning. Many of the topics discussed by Ellie would be useful for both new parrot owners and owners of not so new parrots. The presentation contained many gold nuggets for parrot owners.
ELLIE ALSO ALERTED THE MEMBERS ABOUT A CRIME RING THAT IS STEALING PARROTS AND TRYING TO SELL THE BIRDS. THEY ALLEGEDLY DRIVE A WHITE VAN AND STIKE AROUND 4AM. THEY HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO POISON DOGS TO GET THEIR PREY. IF YOU HAVE BEEN ROBBED OR THINK THEY HAVE ATTEMPED TO ROB YOU, PLEASE CONTACT ELLIE OR ELIZABETH.
Respectfully submitted,
Makena
