AHPA MEETING MINUTES
January 14th, 2007

By Makena

Elizabeth Neill welcomed everyone to the first meeting of the year and wished the members and guests a Happy New Year.  Then she turned the meeting over to Dr. Brian Walsh of the Feather and Fur Clinic.

Dr. Walsh handed out information on Avian Disaster Preparedness Tips and First Aid and Injury Prevention.   He reviewed the Avian Preparedness Tips sheet.  The sheet will be posted on the Aloha Hawaiian Parrot Association Web site.  If you did not attend, please take the time to find this information, print it out and prepare for a disaster.

Dr. Walsh also reviewed the document on First Aid and Injury Prevention.  Items discussed were: Basic Restraint for Examination, Bleeding, Bite Wounds, Patient Caught on Something, Broken Wing/Leg or Other Major Trauma, Difficulty Breathing, Foreign Body Ingestion/Toxin Ingestion, Egg Laying Difficulty and Injury Prevention General Guidelines.

The members asked questions during and after the presentation.  Everyone who attended the meeting received one of the best most comprehensive presentations on ER and disaster preparation.  The AHPA gives a Five Star Wings Up to Dr. Brian Walsh for his time and information he shared with us.

Respectfully submitted,

Makena
